Terrace Area Not only does the terrace area cater for smokers it also accommodates those who wish to enjoy the Cafe Culture experience at the Whalebone. The area seats comfortably up to 60 people, is fully enclosed and has a magnificent display of plants and hanging baskets creating a Mediterranean ambience just outside of the City centre. The area is covered by two large umbrellas which are fitted with lights plus heaters which take the chill off the evening air. Just the place to relax and we also offer table service to make your experience even more pleasurable.
The Vertical Garden The latest edition to our terrace is a fantastic Vertical Wall Garden, which we believe to the first of its kind in licensed premises in the County. Designed and planted by Lizzie Browne of Urban Jungle. Old Costessey. Norwich, this feature will bring all year colour and a floral experience to those who use our highly acclaimed outside facility.
The Whalebone has won many awards over the last few years in the Norwich In Bloom competitions mainly for the external presenation of window boxes at the Pub. The Vertical Wall Garden is an exciting extension to these which we hope you will enjoy.
Conservatory Bar
One of the latest additions to the Whalebone is the Conservatory Bar which was created from original walls that surround the area. These date back to the early 1800’s when the building was a malthouse and brewery which adjoined the pub. Care has been taken to utilise authentic materials to enhance this area with cafe bar style furniture being introduced to give it that wine bar feel. Top Room
If you are looking for a quieter option from that of the busy pub then use the top room, which has sofas and soft leather chairs in which you can relax and enjoy a more intimate experience. This room can also be reserved for small private gatherings for up to 12 people. Board games are also available which include Chess and Backgammon or if you fancy a game of Shut The Box or even Cribbage to while away your time then just ask at the bar.
Lounge & Bar
The front bar boasts the original Bullards Brewery counter and back bar and is one of the pubs features. This is the locals bar where every topic of conversation imaginable is debated vigorously and where all solutions to the world’s problems are eventually sorted, in one way or another. The Bar and Lounge offers Ten cask ales on hand pump, a fabulous range of continental draught and bottled lagers and beers plus an impressive quality wine selection served by the glass or bottle.
